Trussville Alabama Talks

Leave it to politicians. With foreclosures on the rise, income on the decline and unemployment at 10% what does our City Council decide??? To hold a vote in March 2010 to raise property taxes! That's right, you read correctly, raise property taxes $75-$100 for every $100,000 your house is worth. Does it get any crazier? Well, it's as crazy in Washington. The raising of taxes is supposed to be for schools (approx. $1 million) and the city (approx. $500,000). Lets see if the city rolls back the taxes once those amounts are collected......Citizens, you must vote NO to this tax hike. Those of us that have our property taxes escrowed will see an increase in our monthly mortgage payment. You see, we have no control over this tax. We must pay it if passed. Unlike a sales tax where we only pay when we buy something, giving us some control. How dare the City Council even consider this???? VOTE NO and let's then vote for a new City council.

I really don't understand your hypothetical question. Are you asking if a question such as "are you in favor of smaller class sizes?" were on the ballot, would I vote yes or no? If that is what you are asking, that is a typical response to someone against tax increases; "ok, lets guilt them into voting yes". Vey similar to when some politicians want to limit the growth of some programs; "you mean, you're not for helping seniors with their medicines?". You are missing the point (again, if that is what you are asking). It's not about wanting smaller classes; it's about government living within their means as we must do. It's about government looking at us as a blank check every time thay have mis-managed or wasted $$. There is absolutely no reason anyone can give me that would make me support this or any other tax increase, especially right now when most folks are stretched far with their own budgets. I wish, if I had mis-managed, wasted and could not figure out how to operate with in my means, I could just knock on my neighbors door and demand $$ from them to help. Now, if you feel our hard earned money has been well spent and our local governement has earned the right to take more of it and trust them to use it wisely, go ahead and vote yes.

Where can we get the NO yard signs?

Wish I knew. We must get the word out that this vote is fast approaching and we need folks to vote NO. Who in their right mind would actually vote for a property tax increase??

After reading the article in the paper that we "needed" traffic cameras and the road I live on is mostly patches, no new taxes!

School bonds are increases in property taxes that provide revenue for a school district. If a bond was put on the ballot that would be used exclusively to lower class sizes would you vote yes or no and why?

I'm asking this question because our lives are increasingly being controlled by politicians who want to expand government programs in order to buy the votes of constituents who don't earn enough to even PAY taxes.

I am against the property tax because it is the negative effect on property.middle class and low class can not afford the tax.

The business community keeps telling homeowners that our property has decreased in value because of the economic mess we are in. Why is it that my property taxes for my home keeps going up every year. If the value of the home has gone down, the property taxes should go down also.
